Jan 21, I've got a Massey Ferguson33HP, 26 HP to the PTO. Can I run a 6' bush hog cutter with it ok or do I need to stick with a 5'? The tractor is a little over 5' wide and I was hoping to be able to run a 6' cutter so I can cut a path that's not narrower then the tractor width is.

Doesn't seem to be a big deal but would think the mower would do better cutting if it were at least as wide as the bushdig.barted Reading Time: 7 mins. Sep 17, As far as what size tractor you need depends soley on what size cutter you want to pull.
If your really serious about bushhogging and are planning on doing some big lots then I would recommend a 15' flex wing. I would recommend around a 75 hp tractor for that to really pull it good. Our JD pulls it great. for a 20' cutter 90 hp works bulletin board trees fall for us.
How wide should a Bush Hog be? A 5′ wide will probably work for clipping pastures, mowing tall fescue heads and weeds, but not down in the thick stuff or hay.
A 4 ‘ wide would probably be better for lower cuts in thick grass, but I just don’t think it will be heavy duty enough for 5’ tall brush and saplings. Land Pride's RC Rotary Cutter is designed for smaller tractors while retaining the features and benefits of larger folding cutters.
The 12' width, sharp turning radius, and low tongue weight makes this an ideal Rotary Cutter for compact tractor owners that need a large rotary cutter for light agricultural and municipal grass maintenance.
